Get a Driving License

The first important thing after getting a job and house in Dubai is getting the driver’s license. It is very important to have one and some people find it really hard to get one, and personally I have given 7 tests before I got mine. It was very disappointing everytime to go there and give a test, fail, weep and come back. If you dont have a license in your home country and dont know how to drive, you will have to take the training courses in the authorised training centers. The minimum age to apply is 18.

Documents Required

Original Passport and photocopy with residence visa page, no-objection certificate from the employer, an eye test certificate from an authorised optician, and 8 passport sized photos.

Procedure

After you have applied at any authorised center, they will handle the entire registration process with the RTA. You will be provided with a temporary license which you must carry all the time when driving the training vehicle.
There will be internal tests like Garage, Parking, and Signal tests. These tests will be conducted internally by the centers before you are able to go for the final Road test. Recently, Signal tests are conducted in the RTA License Section and the fees is AED 80 for each test. When going for the signal test take your passport, driving file and 2 photos along with you. On passing, you will be given the road test date.
The final road test can get a little hard depending on your luck. Even for this take your passport, driving file, 2 photos, and AED 80 as test fees. You will be accompanied by 3 more candidates in the car undergoing the test, and the police officer taking the test. You will be judged on your driving skills. If you pass, submit AED 100 and an approved ID along with your pass certificate from instructor to the Pass counter. Then get your picture clicked, and collect your license when your name is called out.

Each Individual Test – AED 80 approximately.
Final Driving Test – AED 80 approximately.

Complete package (including training classes and tests) – AED 2500 and above depending on the number of tests given.
